Join us on June 13th from 2pm-4pm at the Senior Center* for the “The New York Swing Exchange” concert
The personnel of this 17-piece orchestra, and our vocalist, are all professional musicians, whose talent and expertise in performing with a big, modern swing band stems from the background of the individual players. Some of the members are alumni of the “Big Band” era of the 40’s. 50’s, and 60’s, coming from the popular New York City scene, as well as the recording industry. Background of the others reaches into the music education area of public schools and universities, bringing along talent from some of today’s younger players, as well as small jazz groups. Add to this the fine vocal work of Maureen Morrissey and it makes a great mix, with everyone benefiting from this artistic diversification.
Most of all, what makes the big, swing band unique is the musician’s love of performing as a group, with the great sounds that come from ensemble jazz and swing, as well as beautiful ballards. The sum total of all these ingredients equals toes tapping; fingers snapping; heads swaying; and those happy smiles on the faces of our listening audiences as well as the dancers.
The Band Members are: Jim Briggs-Alto Saxophone/Clarinet/Flute, Keith Sherman-Alto Sax/Clarinet, Mike Antonelli-Tenor Saxophone/Clarinet/Flute, Joe Horner-Tenor Sax/Clarinet/Flute, David Busch-Baritone Saxophone/Bass Clarinet,
